What is malware? Describe how malware were used in the era of digital age?what measures need to be taken by government for national security? 


Malware is short for malicious software. It is designed to either gain access to or damage someone’s computer network. 


For example, ransomware is a kind of malware.

Two viruses, Whisper and GravityRAT, were used honey trap

  3. Cyber traps 

  4. Economy traps 

  5. Security traps 

  6. Information sharing traps 

  7. Social media traps 





Measures need to be taken:


  1. Creating  Awareness For example : cyber suraksha programme. 


  1. Improving legal framework : information technology act 2000. 


  1. Strengthening  law enforcement : national data protection bill 2018enforcement law. 


  1. Improved response : national cyber coordination cell. 

  2. Providing guidelines /good practices es /standards : adopt g iso standards, use of authentication software, 

  3. Measuring of malware :


  1. Developed cyber coordinated cells :


  1. Information share at cross borders :


  1. Research and development :


  1.  Institutional mechanism and capacity building :


For  national security point view :



  1. Other measures that India could take include investing in the latest technologies for early and better detection of viruses; 

  2. conducting frequent workshops to sensitise defence personnel against cyber risks;

  3.  conducting timely reviews and audits of all devices; 

  4. developing better protocols in the event of contamination; 

  5. developing a methodology to embed dormant malware in all sensitive data and devices which will be able to track the bad actors and destroy the documents with a programmed kill switch; 

  6. and developing a doctrine to hit back. 

  7. The Defence Cyber Agency should be leveraged towards this end. 

  8. Besides this, best cyber practices must be built amongst fresh recruits

Conclusion :

In this information age, the enemy will be relentless and continue to invest and recruit heavily in these methods. India needs to act fast to deter such threats..
